Vegan Breakfast Is Coming to Westchester

Try this experiment: stand anywhere in Westchester and search "vegan breakfast near me."

If you live in this corner of Los Angeles — the 90045, tucked between LAX and Inglewood — you already know how that search ends. LA may be one of the great plant-based food cities in the world, but somehow the morning meal never made it to our neighborhood. You can find coffee. You can find a pastry that's vegan by accident. What you can't find is a real, scratch-made vegan breakfast, built from whole food by people who take the first meal of the day seriously.

We've heard about it from our regulars for a long time. So here's what we've been waiting to say: breakfast is coming to A Grateful Plate.

The Breakfast Gap in Our Corner of LA

Westchester is a neighborhood that deserves better mornings. Think about who wakes up here: families who've been in these blocks for generations, students, airport crews starting shifts at dawn, travelers rolling out of LAX hotels looking for one honest meal before a flight, and — on game weekends — a river of people headed to SoFi Stadium just over in Inglewood.

That's a lot of hungry mornings, and almost nowhere for a plant-based eater to land. The vegan breakfast options that do exist around Los Angeles lean hard on the usual crutches: tofu scrambles, tempeh bacon, imitation sausage from a box. If you eat strictly whole-food — no soy, no processed fake meats — the map gets even emptier.

That emptiness is exactly the shape of what we're building.

What Breakfast Will Look Like Here

We're not publishing a breakfast menu yet, because it isn't finished — and we don't announce food before it's earned its place. But we can tell you precisely what it will stand on, because it's the same ground everything in our kitchen stands on:

Scratch-made, every component. Our kitchen doesn't open boxes; it opens burlap sacks and produce crates. Breakfast will be cooked the way our quesadillas, tacos, and chickpea chowder are cooked — by hand, from whole ingredients.

No soy. No tofu scramble standing in for eggs, no tempeh strips pretending to be bacon. We don't cook with tofu, tempeh, or seitan at any meal, and morning won't be the exception.

No fake meats, ever. No Impossible, no Beyond, no engineered patties. (Yes, our old name was Beyond Vegan, and yes, the confusion with Beyond Meat is a big part of why we're becoming A Grateful Plate. We cook the opposite of factory food.)

Whole foods, ancient grains, indigenous ingredients. Our kitchen is guided by Dr. Sebi's nutritional approach — the emphasis on whole, natural, indigenous plant foods over modern hybrids and processed substitutes. We're an independent restaurant with no affiliation with or endorsement from Dr. Sebi or his estate; his philosophy is our compass, not our credential.

In other words: a vegan breakfast in Los Angeles that a strict whole-food eater can order without reading the fine print. That's the promise. The dishes will follow, and when they do, our email list hears it first. join our list →

While You Wait, the Kitchen Is Already Cooking

Breakfast is the next chapter — but the café is open now, and this is the part of the story too many neighbors still don't know.

Cook-to-order, all scratch. Quesadillas, tacos, sandwiches, salads, chickpea chowder, smoothies and fruit bowls — made fresh when you order, from whole ingredients, no soy, no shortcuts. See the menu →

Grab-and-go and weekly meal prep. Two merchandiser fridges stocked with scratch-made meals in oven-safe trays. Grab one for today, or load up for the week — heat it at the counter and eat in, or take it hot or cold on your way to wherever the day is dragging you. Cameron, our owner, picks the week's dishes; Mara, who has led our meal prep for about five years, makes sure every tray meets the standard; Big Maria has run cold food and prep here for about seven. grab-and-go & meal prep page

Raw #JUICEBAE juice. Cold-pressed, raw, unpasteurized juice, sold right here in the café. If your morning ritual needs saving before our breakfast launches, this is the bridge. #JUICEBAE page

Fair warning about the room: it's small on purpose. Two tables outside, two inside, three stools at the bar counter. This was never meant to be a food hall — it's a neighborhood kitchen, and the fridges and trays exist so the food travels even when the seats are full.

Rooted Here, Fed From Here

We're a Black-owned kitchen with an Inglewood and LA story in our bones, cooking at 6208 W 87th St for the neighborhood that raised the whole idea. The name A Grateful Plate is the ethos: gratitude for real food, for heritage ingredients, for the community that walks through the door.

That's why breakfast matters to us more than a new dayparts strategy ever could. Morning food is neighborhood food. It's the meal you eat closest to home — before the freeway, before the terminal, before the stadium gates. A neighborhood without a real vegan breakfast is missing a table where the day starts, and we intend to set that table.

Minutes from LAX. Down the road from SoFi. Around the corner from you.

Be First at the Table

No launch date to announce yet — we'd rather be right than fast. But when the first breakfast service happens in Westchester, here's how you'll know before the line forms:

Westchester, your breakfast is on the way. And it's going to be worth the wait.
